My Review:

This has to be one of the most remarkable books that I have read. This story is filled with loss, child abuse and love. Make sure when you are ready to read it you have the tissues handy. The story is about a girl named Beth, she has endured years of abuse at such a young age. As she gets older she begins to pick up the pieces. The Final Piece is so brilliantly written! Its is raw and "ugly" at times but yet so beautiful. Please take the time to read this amazing story! I thought I knew what was going to happen but this book pleasantly surprised me.

Goodreads.com Description:

Life shouldn’t be about picking up the pieces.

Beth Bradshaw has spent her life hiding from her tragic past. From the moment a trusted family friend steals her innocence until the moment another rescues her, she struggles to just survive.

Surrounded by the comfort and protection of her extended family, Beth embarks on a journey of healing far from the horrors of her home. In her darkest moments, she meets a boy named Ryan. For one incredible summer, Ryan shows Beth what it’s like to act her own age.

To feel free and let go.
If only for a while.

Years later, another tragedy threatens to shatter the life Beth has carefully crafted. When faced, yet again, with more pieces to pick up, Beth begins to question what her choices have cost her.
Leaving her old life behind, she sets forth on a pilgrimage that will bring her back to the boy she could never forget. He wants to help her pick up the pieces of her life, but is she willing to do what it takes to become whole again?

Can she trust him with a piece of herself?

My favorite quotes:

“We are all broken in one way or another. It's how we put those pieces back together that matters".”

“Hell bent and beautiful, you're my heart.”

“I spent so much energy on cutting and pasting together the person I wanted to be that I forgot who I was.”

“I mourn the piece of myself that I gave away and will never get back”

“Life is full of lessons we either learn from or get bitter over.”

“Tommy cocooned me in his arms. The same arms that struck out to protect me, the arms that saved me. “In my life, I have never known, nor will I ever know, someone as strong and courageous as you, Elizabeth Irene Bradshaw,” Tommy whispers against my temple. I have no words, so I nod my head against his chest, hoping he understands my acceptance of his praise. “You honour me with your trust, baby girl. I am so very proud of you.”

Book Review: Wanted by Kelly Elliot

Wanted by Kelly Elliot

503 pages
Published December 28th 2012
Available on Amazon.com

My Rating: 5 Stars

Did you ever have someone tell you that "you will never be wanted" or "you will never be loved"?
Growing up Ellie was constantly reminded by her mother that she will never be wanted or loved. Ellie was ready to give up on men after Ryan broke her heart, then she met Gunner. Gunner was her brothers best friend and they had an instant connection. Gunner constantly had this urge to protect her, show her how she should be treated and make her feel that love is possible.

Goodreads.com description:

Verbally abused by her mother for years, 18 year old Ellie Johnson always believed she would never be loved or wanted by anyone. She focused all of her attention on her grades and getting into the University of Texas to start a new life away from her mother. The last thing Ellie expected was to fall in love with Gunner Mathews, a starting linebacker for the University of Texas football team and not to mention, her brothers best friend. Gunner only had two passions in life, football and his grandfather’s ranch, until he falls for his best friends little sister. He will stop at nothing to show Ellie how much he wants her, even if it means he has to move faster than she would like. Gunner knows they are meant to be together forever, but Ellie keeps denying her feelings out of fear of being hurt again. Every time he gets close to winning her love, something pushes her away again. Will Ellie ever be able to let go of the past and let him into her heart and will Gunner be patient enough to wait for her? What will it take for them to realize they are all each other have ever WANTED?

Your eyes captivate mine; your lips bring me to my knees. I want to know every part of you Ellie. "But let me tell you, when you find that one girl….. you’ll know it in an instant. You won’t want to just get in her panties and then leave her. Her eyes will hold your eyes captive, and she’ll take the air out your lungs with just a smile. Her laugh, well shit……. her laugh will drive you mad and you will try to do everything under the sun to hear it as much as you can. Her tears will rip your heart out, especially if you caused ‘em. Just the sound of her voice will drive you mad. When you find that girl boys, you found love. Not lust….but true love. You’ll have found the girl who you’ll spend the rest of your life loving, taking care of and just trying to make her so goddamn happy that you would gladly die doing it.”

Featured Author Friday featuring Janice Baker - Promises, Promises

Author bio from goodreads.com:
Janice Baker likes to eat off fine china from the most expensive restaurants, wear the most expensive designer labels and drive the most luxurious cars. Just kidding! I am really your typical mom with two amazing daughters and a fabulous husband. Although I love my family very much, I really enjoy escaping to a fulfilled fantasy world I can create in my mind. Get away with me into my books and enjoy some time away from reality

Before we start, I would like to say that I loved reading Promises, Promises! I love a book filled with seduction, friendship, dominance, passion and love!! I cannot wait until the next book comes out!!!!

Can you describe Promises, Promises in 20 words?
Desperately searching for love, Izzy escapes a man who abused her trust. Meeting Z, she overcomes her past, finding love.
How did you come up with the idea for Promises, Promises?
I read so many amazing books about BDSM relationships and I constantly wondered if there was possibly one guy out there who claimed to be a “Dom,” but was really just a jerk. I thought about what the submissive would be like if she wanted to leave her situation.
And no, I’m not against BDSM relationships, if they’re between two consulting adults. I just wondered, like with any relationship, if something like this could have happened.
Without giving away any spoilers, for those who have not read Promises, Promises, what was your favorite scene to write?
That’s tough because I have several, but I would have to say my favorite overall is the ocean/thunderstorm scene. I actually woke and typed the scene with my eyes closed at 4am. Fun Fact: I actually wrote that scene from Z’s perspective. When I went to add the scene, I realized it was actually Izzy’s Chapter. I really tried several ways to leave the scene in Z’s perspective, but it just didn’t seem to flow. I went through and changed it to Izzy’s and wound up loving it even more!
Describe a typical day when you are writing. Do you have any pre-writing rituals?
Nothing really comes to mind. Writing depends on my mood or time of day. I actually write most of my ideas or some key scenes when I first wake or sometimes they even wake me! I also have many new ideas when I’m driving or in the car line for school. When I “schedule” my writing time, it’s usually right after I drop the kids off at school or after they go to bed. I try to get them to bed early!
Do you have any plans for a book signing event?
I currently do not have any book signings scheduled, but I am trying for Wicked Book Weekend, Book Bash or Naughty Mafia in 2014. I loved Book Bash when I attended as a reader. *raises hand high in the air* Fan Girl right here! I had a blast meeting all my favorite authors! I cannot wait to meet some of my readers one day!
Will there be a sequel? if so can you give us an idea of what to expect?
Yes, well, sort of. There will be a companion novel for Matt. Izzy and Z and all your favorite characters will still appear and their stories will weave in and out, but it will be Matt and Vanessa’s love story.
I honestly had not expected to write one though. Promises, Promises was written as a standalone, but I had so many readers write to me asking for the other characters’ stories and the wheels started turning!
Is there another book project that you are working on? Can you tell us a bit about it?
I do have another WIP (work in progress). I started writing it while Promises, Promises was being edited. I’m thrilled with it actually and cannot wait to share Jordan and Justin’s story. Snippet to come soon!
What came first, the characters or the concept for the story?
The concept for the story actually came first for Promises, Promises. Izzy’s character and her situation stemmed from the actually concept/storyline. I had a lot of fun going outside of the norm.
If Promises, Promises became a movie, who would your dream cast be?
Hmm, really a tough question! It’s tough because I never really “see” a whole face when I write about a character. It’s more the feeling I get from each one. Take Z for instance. If I had to pick an actor, it would be a young Brad Pitt, but more for his facial expressions in some of his earlier movies. Spy Game is one of my favorites, but more so because the way he smirks or gives that playful smile when his eyes light up. His lips. Dear God, his lips, right after he licks them! *fanning myself* I guess if I were to pick more from just “looks” of the image or the inspiration would be:
Z: Young Brad Pitt
Izzy: Katheryn Winnick or Charlize Theron
Mel: Cameron Diaz or Kate Hudson
Flynn: Bradley Cooper or Patrick Dempsey
Clark: Ryan Reynolds (I’m thinking he could deliver Clark’s lines really well!)
Him: Ryan Merriman
Do you ever read the reviews about your books? If so, do you pay attention to any negative reviews or let them influence your writing?
Whew! Yes, I actually do. I read all of them. Every single one. The good and the bad. When I read a negative review, I look for constructive criticism that might be able to help my future writing. I can’t please everyone, but if I did something that really irked several readers, I know that is something that can help me become a better writer.
Do you have a favorite author?
Many! Again – very tough question. Umm, if I had to choose - I would have to say Sylvia Day. I met her at Book Bash. It was the end of the day and she just arrived from her tour in Australia and New Zealand late the previous evening. She had a HUGE blister on her finger from signing so many books. She was smiling and told me how much she loves to meet her readers, regardless of her blister. Not only does she write amazing books, she’s also a fabulous person.
What are your favorite top 3 books that you would recommend?
Wow! You might as well ask me if I have a favorite child! Argh! Umm, ok. Well, I’d have to say Fifty Shades of Grey, Bared to You and Hunger Games.
What book, if any, are you reading now?
Well, I’m not supposed to be reading right now, I’m supposed to be writing. However, Olivia Cunning’s latest book just came out – Tell Me and I “might” be flipping through it “not reading!”
Do you prefer to read traditional books or e-books?
I LOVE my kindle app! I can read in the middle of the night if I want (which happens a LOT). I can read the books I love with the naughty covers in public and no one knows how dirty I can be! That being said, I do have to say I also LOVE my paperback books. It’s a toss-up between a brand new book with fresh pages (love that new book smell!) or a well-worn loved book. I guess I didn’t really answer the question! I prefer both, would have to be my “final” answer.
Out of the books that you have read, which character couple would you like to invite over for dinner and why?
*Evil Laugh* Probably, Kellan Kyle and Kierra. I would probably feel horrible because I would drool all over KK.
If you could work with any author, who would it be?
K.A Linde. I would love to get inside her mind and figure out how she writes such great angst! I love her Avoiding series. Do you see why I couldn’t just pick 3 books to recommend? Can I also add the Avoiding series in there too?
What inspired you to start writing?
I’ve always had these characters in my head. I’ve had scenes play out, but never thought to write any down.  I would tell my husband about what I was thinking and I would go on and on about it. He probably is relieved that I’m not insane with these people running around in my head. One night he asked why I didn’t just go into the office, start typing and try to write a book. I thought he was crazy, but then when I told my best friend about it the next day, she told me to just try it out and see. I sent her 3 chapters and waited on pins and needles before she finally came back to me saying she wanted more! I was hooked after that!
Do you have any advice for aspiring authors?
While researching how to self-publish, my husband and I read that you should have 2-3 books lined up and ready to go before you release your first one. I wish I had followed that advice, but I was so anxious to get Promises, Promises out there! I have several that are close to being done, but when everyone loved Promises, Promises and asked for more, I jumped at writing the companion. Hindsight is always 20/20.
What are you top 5 most important things in your life?
My children, my husband, friends, health and love
Do you have any tattoos or piercings?
I do. Sunshine for happiness on my right backside. It’s small. And I did it with a friend when I was 26.
Do you have any fears?
Horror movies. I hate to be “scared.” Unfortunately, my husband has taught my daughter that. Now she jumps out of the closet and enjoys scaring the daylights out of me. She thinks it’s the greatest thing ever and my husband seems to get a kick out of it too. Me. Not so much.
What do you do for fun, besides writing?
We live near the gulf, so the beach is my fun! My favorite is family sunset night. We meet friends with some drinks and enjoy family, friends and fantastic sunsets!
Do you have any vices?
Starbucks’ Skinny Mocha Café – Vente, please! Yep, just hit repeat!
What was the last thing you googled?
Gourmet meals. I’m definitely not a cook (just ask my husband!), but Izzy is. So I was looking up something awesome for her to whip up for the “gang!”
If you could describe yourself in 5 words what would they be?
Silly, Trusting, Loving, Patient & Understanding.
What is your biggest pet peeve?
Mean people. I hate to sound cliché, but mean people really do suck. Keep your hate to yourselves and let the rest of us enjoy life.
Where was the last place someone spotted you and asked for an autograph?
Well, that hasn’t happened yet, but I can guarantee I’ll be jumping up and down hugging the heck out of that poor soul!
Thank you so much for the interview! Is there anything else you would like your readers to know?
I want to let all of my readers know that I absolutely love their kind words about my writing. I have never been so humbled in my entire life as to when a reader contacts me out of the blue to let me know how much they enjoyed Izzy and Z’s story or asking questions about future books. I truly do love hearing from every last one of you.

My review:
I LOVED this book!!! It's extremely difficult not to fall in love with the characters in this novel. It's a modern tale of a star crossed lovers triangle. It's a wild ride filled with butterflies, tears and angst. You'll laugh, you'll be insanely frustrated but most importantly you'll fall deeply in love. Move over Mr. Grey, Gavin Blake is the new man in town. The delightful New York City backdrop is the perfect setting to lose yourself in a steaming HOT love story.

Goodreads.com description:
A missed first encounter…

Colliding with a second chance…

On the heels of graduating college and trying to cope with her mother’s death, Emily Cooper moves to New York City for a fresh start.

While harboring secrets of his own, Dillon Parker takes care of Emily through her grief. Knowing he can’t live without her by his side, he’s sweet, thoughtful, and everything Emily has ever wanted in a man.

Until she meets Gavin Blake—a rich and notorious playboy who is dangerously sexy and charming as hell. Emily tries to deny the instant connection she feels, but Mr. Tall, Dark, and Handsome is not inclined to let go so easily. Recovering from his own painful past, Gavin will stop at nothing to win Emily over.

This unexpected encounter compels Emily to question her decisions, forcing her to make a choice that will destroy friendships, shatter hearts, and forever change her life.

My Favorite quotes:

“Every part of you was made for me. Your lips were made to kiss mine, your eyes were made to wake up to me looking at you in my bed every morning, and your f***ing tongue was made to roll my name off of it. I am more certain of us than I'm certain that I require oxygen to breathe.”

“Here's to bottle caps, the Yankees, and 'birds', and most of all"...he paused and lowered his voice to a whisper.." and, most of all to a beautiful girl named Molly who refuses to believe the man-the man who loves her more than she'll ever know”

“I’ve never felt so heartbroken and so in love at the same time. If you would’ve told me the day we met that you were going to break my heart— and that days, months, or even years would pass, that I would still be hurting like this—it wouldn’t have stopped me from falling in love with you.”

“I want the late-night drives, the sunset watching, the screaming, the yelling, and the crying. I know I'll definitely want the make-up sex that comes after all of the screaming and crying. I want the good, the bad, and the in-between. All of it is what's going to make us amazing together.”

Book Review: Edge of Never

My Review:
Cameryn is unhappy with her life. She's had nothing but one bad thing after another come at her. Her boyfriend and love of her life died in a car wreck, she has a brother that’s in prison for a drunk driving accident that killed a person. Her mother and father have gotten a divorce and she has had a massive argument with her best-friend. She’s depressed and needs to get away; to escape her problems and her life.

Who knew your life could change on the Greyhound. When twenty-year-old Camryn decides to leave behind his old life and take a bus to absolutely nowhere, meeting Andrew was probably the best thing she picked up on her way....

This is a beautiful love story. It is so realistic, it did not feel like a story. Fantastically written! This story makes you smile and makes you cry!

There are parts of this tale that are so touching and so deeply emotional that it tears your heart out, but it all serves a purpose. Every page, every word, every character counts...what an amazing ride!

My Favorite Quotes:
"You dwell on the past, you can't move forward. Spend too much time planning for the future and you just push yourself backwards, or you stay stagnant in the same place all your life." His eyes lock on mine. "Live in the moment..."

“I belong to you, Andrew Parrish…“Please…,” I whisper, “don’t let me go….”
~Camryn

Depression is pain in it's purest form and I would do anything to be able to feel an emotion again. Any emotion at all. Pain hurts, but pain so powerful that you can't feel anything anymore, that's when you start to feel like you're going crazy." ~Cameryn

"I was taking the long road and Camryn was taking the road to nowhere and it just so happens that they led to the same place." ~Andrew

Goodreads.com description:
Twenty-year-old Camryn Bennett had always been one to think out-of-the-box, who knew she wanted something more in life than following the same repetitive patterns and growing old with the same repetitive life story. And she thought that her life was going in the right direction until everything fell apart.

Determined not to dwell on the negative and push forward, Camryn is set to move in with her best friend and plans to start a new job. But after an unexpected night at the hottest club in downtown North Carolina, she makes the ultimate decision to leave the only life she’s ever known, far behind.

With a purse, a cell phone and a small bag with a few necessities, Camryn, with absolutely no direction or purpose boards a Greyhound bus alone and sets out to find herself. What she finds is a guy named Andrew Parrish, someone not so very different from her and who harbors his own dark secrets. But Camryn swore never to let down her walls again. And she vowed never to fall in love.

But with Andrew, Camryn finds herself doing a lot of things she never thought she’d do. He shows her what it’s really like to live out-of-the-box and to give in to her deepest, darkest desires. On their sporadic road-trip he becomes the center of her exciting and daring new life, pulling love and lust and emotion out of her in ways she never imagined possible. But will Andrew’s dark secret push them inseparably together, or tear them completely apart?

Book Review: The Coincidance Of Callie and Kayden

The Coincidence Of Callie and Kayden by Jessica Sorenson

336 pages

December 13th 2012
Available on amazon.com

My Rating: 4 Stars

This is a phenomenal story about two people that endured years of abuse and found each other. Together they learn to trust and help each other heal. This is such a touching story!

This story highlights the horrors of childhood abuse of all kinds and the lasting damage inflicted on its victims. The story has got a very gentle, quiet feel to it, but at the same time, really draws you into it.

You really get a feel for each character because each chapter alternates each POV. You completely submerge yourself into each characters psyche and you literally go through everything that they are. When they cry, you cry; when they are scared so are you; when they are happy, so are you.

Callie is quiet, shy and withdrawn from the world after what happened to her many years ago as a child. Kayden is physically and emotionally scarred. They have not spoken in years, then one night everything changes.

Goodreads.com description:

There are those who don’t get luck handed to them on a shiny platter, who end up in the wrong place at the wrong time, who don’t get saved.

Luck was not on Callie’s side the day of her twelfth birthday when everything was stolen from her. After it’s all over, she locks up her feelings and vows never to tell anyone what happened. Six years later her painful past consumes her life and most days it’s a struggle just to breathe.

For as long as Kayden can remember, suffering in silence was the only way to survive life. As long as he did what he was told, everything was okay. One night, after making a terrible mistake, it seems like his life might be over. Luck was on his side, though, when Callie coincidentally is in the right place at the right time and saves him.

Now he can’t stop thinking about the girl he saw at school, but never really knew. When he ends up at the same college as Callie, he does everything he can to try to get to know her. But Callie is reserved and closed off. The more he tries to be part of her life, the more he realizes Callie might need to be saved.

 Some of my favorite quotes:

"I want to find out what it’s like to be touched by someone I trust; someone I gave my permission to."

"I trusted him once and I decide to do it again. I just pray to God he doesn’t shove me down and break me, because I’m already in too many pieces and I just don’t know how much more breaking I can take."

"In the existence of our lives, there is a single coincidence that brings us together and for a moment, our hearts beat as one."

“It's amazing how the things you remember forever are the things you'd rather forget and the things you desperately want to grasp onto seem to slip away like sand in the wind.”

Book Review: Taking Chances

Taking Chances By Molly McAdams

 432 pages
Published October 16th 2012

My Rating: 5 Stars

This book was a total emotional roller coaster! I cried, I laughed, and I fell in love with two wonderful guys! The kicker is that mid book you are confronted with a HUGE twist and I was heartbroken. I even did the "Ugly Cry". I was yelling at the book.....while sobbing like a child. I was in such shock I had to re-read that page.

It is a long read but it is so worth it. Every page there is something that keeps you so wrapped up that you don't want to put it down. Molly McAdams wrote a perfect book!

This story is about Harper, a fun loving and adorable raised by her marine father, Chase who is the epitome of Bad Boy and Brandon is so sweet, tender and caring.

This is such a great read if you are looking for a collage age romance with so many ups and downs!

Goodreads.com Description:

Her first year away is turning out to be nearly perfect, but one weekend of giving in to heated passion will change everything.

Eighteen-year-old Harper has grown up under the thumb of her career marine father. Ready to live life her own way and to experience things she's only ever heard of from the jarheads in her father's unit, she's on her way to college at San Diego State University.

Thanks to her new roommate, Harper is introduced to a world of parties, gorgeous guys, family, and emotions. She finds herself being torn in two as she quickly falls in love with both her new boyfriend, Brandon, and her roommate's brother, Chase. Despite their dangerous looks and histories, both men adore Harper and would do anything for her, including taking a step back if it would mean she'd be happy.

Here are a few of my favorite quotes:

“That first night, I did realize I would never meet another girl like you. But you deserve someone who has waited for you as long as you have waited for them. And no matter how much I wish I could be that guy, I can't Harper.”

“People fall in and out of love all the time, and sometimes people have numerous loves throughout their lives. But you have two epic loves and no matter who you were with, I don’t think you’d ever get over or forget the other.”

“I hate not talking to you, I hate not bickering like we're an old married couple and I hate not spending every day right next to you. - Chase”

“A part of me will probably always love you too, but I can't take chances with you Chase. You'll leave me one day, and it will kill me when you do.”

My review is coming soon.....

Good Reads Description:
Chase Grayson has never been interested in having a relationship that lasts longer than it takes for him and his date to get dressed again. But then he stumbles into a gray-eyed girl whose innocence pours off her, and everything changes. From the minute Harper opens her mouth to let him know just how much he disgusts her, he's hooked.

But a princess deserves a Prince Charming who can make her dreams come true. Not a guy who can turn her life into a nightmare.

All good intentions go out the window when Harper starts to fall for the guy Chase has come to view as a brother. He wanted to protect her by keeping her away, but he can't stand to see her with anyone else, and he'll do anything to make her his. But when it comes down to Harper choosing between the two, will Chase have the strength to step back from the girl who has become his whole world if it means she's happy?

Lines will be crossed. Friendships will be put to the test. And hearts will be shattered.
