Cover Reveal: Epic Love Story by Dawn Robertson

Epic Love Story - A Romantic Comedy coming from Dawn Robertson - Summer 2015

My names Cora, and until recently I thought I was living the American dream. Perfect husband. Perfect house. But life isn't a fairytale I learned that the hard way when I discovered my husband's been banging his secretary on a daily basis.
I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have just come out with that, but I really don’t have much of a filter.
The story began when we met in high school, and abruptly ended recently so now I am just trying to put my life back together without him.
I'm finally going to live my dream. Without him but with his money. Because I deserve every dime I get for what he did to me.

I have always wanted to be an author.
In fact, I started writing my very first book about six months ago; a New Adult tale of gut-wrenching love in college. The kind of book that makes you ugly cry and root for the heroine while she does her own soul searching.

Except I just chucked the whole thing in the trash, where it belongs, because the real world isn’t like that. I want to write a real life story. A real life account of searching for love.
So, I am using myself as market research so you could say.
Hold on bitches, because it’s about to be a bumpy ride.

2 brothers... 1 girl... I never expected to be that girl. The one desiring the touch of two brothers and being thrust into a world of intense pleasure. Not in reality anyway. Both of these brothers are out to please and they both have the equipment to do it. The Wilder brothers have proved that. Kyan Wilder fucks like no other man I've ever experienced. He's rough, creative and still willing to be gentle when you need it. He's every single woman's desire brought to life and he's not willing to let me go until he's done pleasing me in every possible way he can. Hunter Wilder is a loose cannon. He likes to party, get wild and then show you a good time in the bedroom. He keeps me pleased and reminds me that I'm still young and not everything in life needs to be so serious. We're all fine with sharing. Things are going smoothly. It saves the brothers from having to commit and it ensures that I'll always get the sexual satisfaction that I desire. I mean what girl doesn’t dream of having sex with the two most sinfully sexiest brothers to walk this earth? Well I didn’t… Until I got a taste. But then I remembered that nothing this good lasts forever...

Kyan is watching me with a lazy smirk as I look down at my camera. “I guess the next spot is in my bedroom. Not many girls get invited in there.” He tugs on the end of my ponytail as his eyes roam over my body. “Good thing you dressed comfortably. You need to be flexible for this part.” I watch the way his ass and back muscles move as he exits the room. “Holy shit,” I say to myself. I pull my shirt away from my chest as I get an instant rush of heat through my body. He does this on purpose; uses the perfect words to make a girl sweat bullets. He’s sexy, smooth, and successful; the perfect blend of trouble. I stop in his doorway and watch him as he undoes his jeans and tugs at his zipper. His eyes meet mine and stay there, as he drops his jeans and kicks them aside. I can’t help but to take notice of his thick thighs and how they flex whenever he moves. Drool… don’t expose yourself now. He walks over to stand in front of me and reaches for my camera, setting it down on the foot of his bed. It sinks into the thick, white blanket and we both watch it before locking eyes again. “Show me how you want my boxers.” Grabbing my arms, he places my hands on the top of his briefs. “Excuse me?” He takes my fingers and hooks them into the front of his black briefs. “Pull them down to where you want them. Show me.” This is too much power. Too much power is never a good thing. I gently tug them down a bit, exposing the top of his hipbones. He laughs. “Are you uncomfortable with me being in my boxers?” He pulls me toward him. “Let’s fix that.” Before I know it he’s on his knees, tugging my shorts down my legs. I instantly get embarrassed. “What are you doing?” He grabs my hips and lifts me as he kicks his foot out and pushes my shorts across the floor. “There. Now we’re both in our underwear. Better?” I look down at my black, lacy panties, before looking up to see that he’s biting his bottom lip. Again, he always seems to do that when he shows interest. I feel silly so I start to laugh. “Are you serious?” He reaches for my hands again and practically shoves them into the top of his briefs. “Dead serious.” He flashes his dimples. “Now take control and show me how you want my boxers.” The power behind his demand feeds me and I find myself tugging his black briefs down until the top of his thick shaft is exposed, along with the top part of his muscular ass. He looks down and lifts an eyebrow. “Better.” He hands me my camera before he walks around the side of the bed and tugs the huge blanket off, leaving nothing but a black, silk sheet. I feel oddly confident standing here in my underwear about to photograph America’s sexiest bachelor. I’m not sure if this is a temporary confidence, but it feels good. I’m having fun. I find myself kicking my shoes aside and jumping onto his bed while trying to balance my camera. He smiles up at me as he lies down on his back and adjusts the sheet so that it’s between his legs. Without my direction, he places one hand behind his head and waits for me to start snapping pictures. It seems with each click of the button that his briefs start to get lower and lower, exposing more of his body. Playing it smooth, he flips over onto his stomach. He lowers his briefs until the top half of his ass is exposed. His ass is so round and firm that all I want to do is bite it. My breathing picks up as he slides one arm under his pillow and looks up with a seductive look in his eyes. He must notice my change in breathing, because his eyes meet mine and suddenly he sits up and gets on his knees below me. I’m standing on his bed and he’s just looking up at me with the sexiest face I’ve ever seen. His question surprises me. “Have you ever thought about fucking me?” My saliva thick, I swallow, and let out a nervous laugh. “What?” He reaches for my camera and pulls it out of my hand, before tossing it beside him. Then he grips onto my hips and looks up at me. “Have. You. Ever. Thought. About. Fucking. Me?” He grips my hips harder when I don’t answer him. “Tell me the truth. Please don’t ever lie to me.”

Book Review: Pocketful of Sand by M. Leighton

Pocketful of Sand

M. Leighton

Reviewed by Sandra Long

5 Stars

A powerful novel of abuse and loss as a mother runs away from a childhood of sexual abuse that resulted in the birth of a daughter, fathered by her step-father. The unusual part is that her running is financed and arranged by her mother, who has been  willing to permit the abuse as long as it kept her man with her and happy, but when he started on the granddaughter when she was only four, even tis woman drew the line, and gave her daughter money and helped her escape with her daughter. I did child protective services for 16 years and can tell you from personal experience that many women make better grandmothers than mothers. I have no way to explain this but I have seen it so that made this story believable to me.

Eden and her daughter, Emmy, go as far as they can go, across the country, and rent a beach front cottage in a tiny town where they feel they will never be found. Their landlord, Cole,  is a man who lost his own daughter when she was Emmy's age. She was a passenger in his car and he was driving under the influence when they wrecked and she was killed. The town people think he is crazy because he spends so much time alone, makes a sandcastle on the beach every Sunday regardless of the weather and can be heard talking to his dead daughter. He has never forgiven himself and neither has his wife, so he too is hiding away in this tiny town where he has bought several houses to remodel and rent and does almost all the work himself.

When he sees Emmy, something in him is deeply touched. She is not only the same age, but strongly resembles his deceased daughter and she is immediately drawn to him. In spite of his best efforts to remain alone, Emmy keeps finding ways to talk to him and as their landlord, he is forced to spend time with them. Eden has never lived in a cold climate so he has to help her prepare for a cold Maine winter and these two broken people begin to have feelings for each other. Gradually a relationship develops that neither understands or knows where it will lead.

Just as they are beginning to build trust and find love, Cole's wife comes looking for him, wanting him back, and Eden's stepfather shows up, also wanting her and Emmy back.  Suspense and romance mixed with emotional backgrounds that have broken our characters almost beyond the healing point but making them understand the brokenness they find in each other. The storyline is fascinating and thought provoking. Five stars and a strong recommendation to readers who love this type story as well as those who have never read this type story before. I think you will be very glad you read it and will close the last page with a much better understanding of how and why people stay in abusive relationships and how hard it is to  leave when all your self-esteem and courage are wiped out by the abuser. Also, the story of a man who needs to learn to forgive himself for a bad mistake and hopefully reading this will prevent someone else from making this same bad decision.

“She’s beauty for my ashes. And I’m hope for her heartache.”—Cole Danzer.

I don’t know what makes a great love story. Is it that instant attraction when boy meets girl? The passionate kisses and the fairy-tale ending? Or is it a lifetime of tragedy, paid in advance, for a few stolen moments of pure bliss? The pain and the suffering that, in the end, you can say are worth it for having found the missing piece of your soul?

The answer is: I don’t know. I don’t know what makes a great love story. I only know what makes my love story. I only know that finding Cole when I did, when Emmy and I were running from a nightmare, was the only thing that saved me. That saved us. He was more broken than I was, but somehow we took each other’s shattered pieces and made a whole. If thatis what makes a great love story, if that is what makes an epic romance, then mine…ours is the greatest of them all.

I was born and raised in the United States, and I’ve lived in several of the fabulous fifty. Though I currently live in the deep South, I spent much of my childhood up North and hope to return there one day. A few other things about me: I believe that sometimes you have to look really, REALLY hard to find the good in people, but it's there. I believe that I'm shrinking (I swear five years ago I was two inches taller). I believe my husband is quite possibly one of the most amazing men in the entire world (I can't be sure because I haven't met all of them). I believe coffee and chocolate, when combined, could be the basis for world peace. I believe that Jesus rocks and communism doesn’t. I believe that white makes me look fat and black collects lint. I believe summer's too hot, winter's too cold and fall was made for football. I like dogs better than cats and the first movie in a trilogy is invariably the best. But most of all, I believe that love conquers all.

Excerpt:

“Why don’t you come in?”

I was startled again by the sound of him, of his deep, alluring tone. I didn’t realize I was still hovering in the doorway. Closing most of the gap between us, I moved to one of the chairs.

I hooked my bag onto the back of it, his fingers slicing through the air as they reached for mine.
“Call me Derek.” He enclosed my hand with a pressing strength that I assumed was lightened for my benefit.
Though his stare remained on my face, I wasn’t able to keep mine on his. I needed a break, a second to get myself under control.

Control

I had obviously lost that, though I didn’t understand why. Polished men were all I knew, all I had ever been attracted to: groomed and well-dressed, pretty and sharp, even cocky and somewhat selfish. They were certainly never burly or animalistic like Derek. So why was he having this kind of physical effect on me?

Ignoring it, his clothes had dried, and he dressed quickly. Making the bed, he walked into the living room to find Winter bundling into several layers, a snow shovel leaning against the door. “I’m just in time,” he smiled.
“Come on, let’s get this over with,” she returned the smile from under a knit cap and the dark blue parka’s hood. It made her light blue eyes burn a deeper color, and accentuated the red lips against the paleness of her skin.
Taking a deep breath, and glad his coat didn’t let her see the way his dick liked her, he followed outside.
Snow flurries swirled around them like a river, but it was light and the wind was easy. Unused to shoveling snow after buying a snowblower, he was breathing hard a foot from the porch. Winter continued, whistling. She bent over, and he noticed she wore jeans, low riders that gave him a glimpse of the dark blue g-string.
His breathing escalated for another reason altogether. Images of removing the slip of underwear with his teeth, nibbling and licking the skin, making her moan, caused his heart to beat hard enough to force him backwards. The wall of snow kept him upright. He worked hard to get the image out of his head, closing both eyes and counting to one hundred.
“Are you okay? Do you need a break, Mason? Mason? Are you okay?” her voice grew stronger, more urgent.
He opened to find her only a foot away, a hand on his chest. Swallowing the lump in his throat, he croaked, “Yes, I, I …”
“Do you need to go inside?” She jerked off a glove and put a warm hand against his cheek. “You’re really hot, maybe we should go inside.”
The feel of her palm against his skin unlocked a dam. He shoved a hand into her hood, under the cap, grabbed a handful of the silky blonde hair, and pulled her head back. He stared into her eyes, gauging. “I’m going to kiss you, and kiss you hard, Winter. All you have to do is say yes.” His voice dropped several octaves, came out deep and harsh, much like his breathing.
“Yes,” she whispered, a puff of coffee laced breath gently pushing against his face.
It was all he needed. He took her mouth, pushing hard, forcing her to open to him. Taking advantage, he tasted her, the mocha laced coffee, and the underlying sweetness that was all Winter. Throwing the shovel to the side, he wrapped the other arm around her waist, jerking the soft body against his. Her moan vibrated against his mouth, and the imprisoned beast growled. Mine.
Using his tongue, he showed her exactly what he wanted, in and out of her mouth, tasting every inch between thrusts, giving her little room to breathe or decide to end it. He wanted her to know exactly what he wanted, how he wanted it, and that she was going to enjoy every minute. Her hips moved against him, and the beast he thought died with Beth roared to life.

Excerpt #2:
Mason signed the necessary paperwork, put in a report, and left. Outside the station, he hailed a cab, and watched the familiar buildings pass slowly in the early morning traffic. He’d seen the anger in Winter’s eyes, and knew what it looked like. Damn his stupid instincts. She could obviously protect herself if needed. She didn’t require a man to do it for her. She didn’t manipulate to get what she wanted, nor had she ever demanded he watch over her every move.
Closing his eyes, the night flashed on the inner screen. He had to get it together. He’d taken time off work, saying it was a family emergency, and it was already getting close to Thanksgiving. Not that he’d had big plans. His parents were dead, no siblings, and he wasn’t going to spend the holidays with Beth’s family.
The cab came to an abrupt stop, and he handed the cabby the fare plus a good tip. Getting out, he stepped onto the sidewalk and stretched. Muscles protested, but nothing had been broken in the fight. A lot of bruises formed, and he couldn’t see out of the one eye, but otherwise, he was okay.
Stepping inside the hotel, he took the elevator to his room, and once inside, stripped. A hot shower was in order, and some serious soul searching. Part of him screamed to find and watch over Winter. She was still in danger, and alone. Word was her parents were going back to the Hamptons. The danger in Wyoming wasn’t likely to stay there.
A towel wrapped around his waist, he hit the power button, and sat on the bed. The news was the same thing, nothing good. There was a blip about a possible fight involving Winter Beauman, but it hadn’t been verified. He flipped the channels until he found an old sitcom. Leaving it, he noticed the red light blinking on his cellphone. Tapping the screen, he listened to the voicemails, saving a couple, deleting the rest. The final voicemail was from Emily, asking him to call.
He tapped her number in and stopped. Staring at the screen, he wondered why he was calling. He’d been clear about the boundaries. It was time to cut the cord. Deleting the numbers, he tossed the phone on the bed, and grabbed a pair of sweats. Turning on the TV, he settled into the recliner.
A noise woke him, and he opened the one good eye. He could hear rustling at the door, and frowned. Walking on the balls of his feet, keeping his footfalls quiet, he moved to stand on the side of the door opposite the handle.
He ducked at the sound of the shotgun cocking on the other side of the door, as the roar of a shot blew the door in. He caught the door, slamming it against the person trying to get in. He heard the groan of pain as it connected with the intruder’s face, and he rolled into the small entrance. One foot kicked out, the heel connecting solidly with the groin of the male.
“Call 911!” Mason yelled, the intruder falling onto his legs. He punched hard, hitting the man’s temple. The feel of the delicate bone crunching under his knuckles almost made him sick.
The body went limp.
