 “I thought I told you to stay upstairs? Dammit, Lyric.” His voice is thick and harsh as he fights to catch his breath. I swallow as he grabs my camera and takes it off from around my neck, setting it down onto oh his dresser. My treacherous eyes wander down to his stiff chest and abs, landing directly on the V of muscle leading down to his jeans. The little moist patch of brown hair, almost causes my mouth to water as I think about what it leads to. It’s barely there, but is enough to catch my attention. “I’m leaving,” I blurt out, unsure of how to act now that my resolve has crumbled. “I was coming to let you know. Now give me my camera so I can go.” He walks forward until I’m backed up against the wall, with his arms pinning me in. He inhales a deep breath and leans down so that his lips are just inches above mine. Our bodies aren’t touching, yet my stupid body is reacting as if we are. My breathing picks up as I smell his minty breath mixed with hard liquor as it brushes against my lips. “You like taking pictures of me, Lyric?” He presses his body a little closer, but still doesn’t touch me. Call me crazy, but my body is screaming for him to at this point. “I can take my clothes off right now and let you take as many pictures as you want as long as you promise to keep my jacket on. Is that what you want? Huh, Lyric? Because that is all I can do for you.” I fight to catch my breath before I place my hands on his sweaty chest and push him away. He hasn’t even touched me and I am so damn turned on that I can’t fight the wetness forming between my legs. Just the thought of his sweaty, naked body is insanely hot. Him offering to show it to me… I can’t even go there. I just need to get out of here. “Just because I like taking your picture, does not mean that I want to see you naked. It means that… just never mind. I don’t have to explain shit to you. I’m out of here.” I walk past him and reach for my camera, replacing the cap.

Dalton "Dolly" and Jonas were both placed in foster care in the same home. Dolly was there first and then when she was a pre-teen, a rebellious teenage Jonas came to live with them. The foster parents were very loving and supportive and wanted these two foster children, and the younger twin boys that they had adopted, to consider themselves a family. They saw the attraction between Dolly and Jonas and did everything in their power to prevent it and contain it, even to encouraging Jonas to enlist in the Navy as soon as he finished high school in order to separate the two.

Neither ever forgot the other even though several year went by. Jonas served heroically in the Navy, saw combat and was promoted. Dolly went off to college and majored in her great love---photography. She and Jonas both had relationships with other people during the years they were apart but never lost the love they felt for each other. They kept in touch over the years, but talking as foster siblings and neither ever told the other of their undying love.

Dolly returns to their hometown to practice her profession of photography and has a reasonably successful business. Her best friends from high school are still there and still single and the four of them spend a lot of time together. When Jonas unexpectedly returns to the town and becomes manager of the only bar/nightclub in town, he does not tell Dolly he is coming home and does not contact her. When she sees him at the club, he is with the school tramp who had gone to their high school and Jonas had a sexual relationship with back then, that Dolly had walked in on one night. This girl that Dolly and her friends called "Tits" worked at this nightclub as a bartender and she was all over Jonas. Jonas' high school friends are still around also but some of them have designs on Dolly themselves while others try to give him advice that he doesn't take. From all appearances he is having a relationship with Tits. He is very secretive about his personal life and his future plans, even from his best friends.

Dolly and Jonas both had issues from their childhood, as do all foster children. They also struggled with the way some people, especially Tits, call them brother and sister and insinuate that a sexual relationship between them would be incest. Tits does everything she can to trap Jonas, even telling everyone that she is carrying his baby. Her jealousy of Dolly escalates to the breaking point.

There comes a time that Jonas and Dolly tell each other of their love and have a night of explosive passion, but Jonas, believing Tits is going to give birth to his child and that he has a moral as well as legal obligation to provide for and be a parent to that child, tells Dolly they can only have that one night together but she will always have his love. Tits harasses Dolly and even threatens her but Dolly doesn't take the threats as seriously as she should. The threats get worse when the whole town discovers Dolly is pregnant with Jonas' twins.

Fostering Love is filled with love, laughter, heartbreak, tears and suspense, everything the reader needs to get fully involved with a book and not want to put it down until the very end. There is sex, and it is steamy, but it is not over done and helps add to the storyline. This novel is a comfortable length for a relaxing day of reading for enjoyment. Excellent book and I hope I see more from this author. Five stars.

Life is full of regrets and not telling him how she felt was the biggest regret she had... so far.  Dalton wasn’t going to miss that opportunity the next time it came around.

She just didn’t expect the fallout to be so... life changing.

Book Review: Heart of Steele by Randi Alexander

Randi Alexander has written a follow-up to her novel Chase and Seduction and allows us to learn what happened to 2 of our favorite characters from the first novel. But this book can stand alone as an interesting love story even if the reader has not read the first book in the series. In fact, I read this one before reading Chase and Seduction and was able to pick up what I needed to know from the previous book by the end of the first chapter.

Tracy Hartman is a want-to-be actress and best friends with the heroine from the first book, a beautiful girl named Reno, who just happened to dating and in love with Chase, an up and coming country music star who is best friends with Steele McLairn, another popular country music. 

The first book follows their romance, which is definitely worth reading, especially if you like this book. All through book one it is obvious that Tracy and Steele have a strong attraction for each other but nothing ever develops between them. As we pick up in book two we find that Steele is shooting a video to go with his latest music and unknown to Tracy, he asks for her to be hired to act in the video. She thinks she was randomly chosen and is just thankful for the work and the income it will provide for her. When she learns she will be working with Steele, she thinks that is just icing on the cake until she overhears him on his cell phone talking in a very negative tone of voice, using foul language and talking about a bastard, she knows Reno and Chase have just gotten back together and are with their infant daughter and she assumes Steele is talking to Chase and trying to talk him into dumping Reno and wondering if he is actually the father. Steele was actually talking about an entirely different set of circumstances to his father, but Tracy didn’t wait to find out. She immediately reacted on her assumption that he was talking to Chase and against her friend Reno, so she just walks over to him, starts yelling at him and punches him in the face hard enough that she split his lip open and send his cell phone flying.

She runs to hide out in her dressing room and Steele follows her to find out what was going on. They soon discover the mistake and she apologizes but he has a swollen, bleeding mouth and someone has the entire episode on video that was still running during their altercation. 

In a very short time the video is sold and immediately goes viral, before the participants can even get out of their make -up and costumes. Instant panic for their agents---any publicity is good publicity but for now the powers that controlled their careers decide it is best for them to disappear until some reasonable story can be made up to explain the video. 

Lucky for them Steele is a very wealthy man who owns a lot of property and the studio security manage to sneak the two of them out without being seen and they change cars, take weird routes and eventually get to one of his isolated lodges but with only the clothes on their backs. 

They can’t stay there for long because the media will surely be on their trail and locate them quickly. So, they change vehicles again and take off for his most remote, secluded hide-away in the mountains. His staff has called ahead and had the caretakers stock the cabin with food, firewood, all the necessities, so these two find themselves pretty much trapped together for an undetermined amount of time. The attraction they once felt for each other lights up like a Christmas tree. But, each is reluctant to completely open up to the other because they both have trust issues and old hurts they are still trying to deal with, family secrets they were not comfortable sharing. The author gives us very vivid 

descriptions of their fiery sexual encounters so this is definitely a book for the mature reader.

Tracy tells Steele she wants to cool the relationship for the sake of their careers but it is really because she is afraid of being hurt. He is hurt by her seemingly uncaring attitude but tries to play the part of the tough guy. Both families secrets start blowing up in their faces, have to be dealt with and the secrets start coming out in the open. Will their relationship survive all this drama or will they part ways and both lose out on the only true love the have ever known ? This author keeps you glued to every page trying to find the answers. 

Great read for the mature reader who enjoys romance mixed with drama and some dysfunctional family issues thrown in along the way. Thumbs up for another winner
